"Chopped" Competition

Chopped Competition

Friday’s EggFEST “Chopped” Competition to Result in Bragging Rights, Trophy

All three participating chefs say their participation is a way to give back to the community. Tickets available to watch the competition in person

Louisville, KY – Chef Henry Wesley has won twice. Chef Serge Katz and Chef Jarrod Price have never before competed for the top prize. The winner of Friday evening’s “Chopped” competition during the annual Big Green EggFEST will take home the trophy and bragging rights for an entire year.

All three professional chefs from the Louisville area will be given a box of surprise ingredients and 90 minutes to prepare an appetizer, entrée and dessert, all on Big Green Egg wood charcoal grills. The competition will take place at Brownsboro Hardware & Paint, 4858 Brownsboro Road.

The friendly competition has resulted in some good-natured ribbing and sincere appreciation to the community that has supported them over the years.

Chef Wesley, of 8UP Elevated Drinkery and Kitchen says his experience will help him bring home the prize. “These other guys just don’t know what they’ve gotten themselves into. Having won the competition before and knowing that you have to dig in your bag of tricks to put forth the best dishes will give me the winning advantage.”

Chef Jarrod Price of Copper Kitchen disagrees. “Sometimes if you’ve won before- like Henry – you’re overconfident. The guys coming up are hungrier than the guy at the top of the mountain looking down. So I’m ready to let him relax while I take that trophy.”

Chef Serge Katz of FlavaVille is taking a different approach. “I’m used to pressure, and I feed off it These guys like to talk trash. I don’t need to do that because. I am like a silent Ninja. I’m going to let my skills sneak up on them and win the competition.”

“Being in the food truck business, I’ve gotten to see a lot of Kentucky and Louisville,” added Chef Katz. “The community has been good to me, and I want to do whatever I can to help repay that kindness.” Chef Prince agrees, saying, “The city has always embraced us, from the days when we had a hot dog stand, to now supporting our food truck. It’s fun to have some fun and pay back their kindness.” “On this, I agree with both of my competitors,” adds Chef Wesley. “This is a good competition, it’s all for fun, and it helps support two great charities- A Recipe to End Hunger and Kentucky Harvest.”

In addition to the Chopped competition, the first day of EggFEST also will feature a “People’s Choice” competition will take place among five local teams who will be cooking a variety of dishes for attendees and seeking votes for the best team.

On Saturday, August 5, the EggFEST Food Festival will continue from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Events will include a best beef or pork contest; tons of incredible food to sample and savor, cooked to perfection by competing chefs; and Big Green Egg classes at 9:30 am, 11 am, & 1 pm.
