Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring is a versatile, durable, and affordable option for updating the look of your home. Vinyl flooring has come a long way from years past, with styles that mimic the look of materials like hardwood and stone and much easier installation and maintenance.

Advantages of Vinyl Flooring

The advantages of vinyl flooring are many.

  • Waterproof: Vinyl floors are waterproof, making them a superior option for moisture-prone areas like bathrooms, laundry rooms, and refinished basements.

  • Durability: Vinyl’s durable construction resists scratches, stains, and daily wear, making it ideal for homes with pets and children.

  • Easy to Clean: Vinyl flooring is generally easier to clean than hardwood or tile.

  • Budget-Friendly: Vinyl flooring is much more affordable than natural materials such as hardwood or tile.

Types of Vinyl Flooring

There are a few types of vinyl flooring. An application that looks best for kitchen vinyl flooring may differ from what works in a laundry room.

  • Vinyl Floor Plank

    • Vinyl floor boards or planks replicate the appearance of hardwood floors, offering a range of wood-like designs. These are easy to install with click-lock systems and are perfect for DIY-ers.

  • Vinyl Floor Tile

    • Vinyl floor tiles are easy to install with peel-and-stick technology and are made to look like marble or natural stone.

  • Vinyl Rigid Core Floor Plank

    • Vinyl rigid core plank technology adds extra durability and structure, making these planks more resilient against impact and wear.

    • They feature an acoustical pad for noise reduction and additional comfort, and they mimic the look of stone, ceramic, or porcelain tiles.

    • They’re ideal for rooms where a more traditional tile aesthetic is preferred but without the high maintenance or cost.

Vinyl Flooring Installations

The installation method for vinyl flooring varies by product. The three most common are as follows:

  • Peel-and-Stick - These tiles can be laid out to ensure correct spacing and are installed by simply removing the backing and securing to the floor.

  • Click-Lock - These tiles have a built-in locking system that installs seamlessly with no glue or adhesive.

  • Glue-Down - These tiles are a great option for high-traffic areas and are simple to install.

Maintenance and Care Tips

Vinyl flooring is easy to clean and is resistant to most stains. Floors should be vacuumed or swept regularly. Mopping with a damp mop using a vinegar and water solution will keep floors looking new. Abrasive cleaners or wax products are not recommended, as they can damage the finish.
