Nails
Nails are essential components for construction, renovation, and DIY projects, and they are used in a wide range of applications. Choosing the right nail type for each project ensures a successful finish. Do it Best carries a variety of nails in all types and sizes.
Common Nails
Common nails are what most people think of when they envision nails hardware. A common nail has a strong shank, a diamond-shaped point, and a round head for easy driving. These nails are used in applications where strength is more important than aesthetics. Many projects that require nails for wood like construction and woodworking use common nails.

Roofing Nails
Roofing nails are used to hold shingles in place when installing a roof. Square cap nails are often used to secure felt or underlayment. Nails used for shingles are either smooth shaft or ring shaft. A ring shaft provides a little more security to hold the shingles in place. Roofing nails are usually 1 - 2” long and around 10 - 12 gauge. Roofing nails have a diamond-shaped point and must be long enough to easily puncture the deck below. Copper, galvanized steel, aluminum, and stainless steel nails are all used in roofing.

Finishing Nails
Finishing nails are smooth, thin nails with a rounded head that is just slightly larger than the nail shaft. They are used in finish carpentry work like moulding and baseboards. The small head of the nail is designed to be tapped into place and leave a smaller hole in the finished wood.

Masonry Nails
Masonry nails are short, thick, and very sturdy. They are designed to be used with concrete, brick, or mortar. Masonry nails are made of hardened steel with grooves on the shaft to make it easier to drive into the solid material. Some are angular and flat, while others have more of a shortened, traditional nail shape.

Framing Nails
Framing nails are used to frame buildings or woodwork. These wood nails are typically made from steel with a round head and are slightly thinner than common nails so they are less visible in the end product.

Box Nails
Box nails are very similar to common nails but with a smaller shank. They are less sturdy than common nails, so box nails are used for smaller projects that require less support. The smaller diameter of a box nails reduces the chances of splitting wood and makes them acceptable for use with thinner pieces of wood.
