About Ferrara Lumber

Ferrara Lumber has been a fixture in Seneca Falls, NY, since 1959. The core value of Ferrara Lumber is blending a good business sense with a commitment to the community. Because of this, the business has maintained its position in the face of competition and adversity for over 50 years.

Third generation owners Sarah, Matthew, and Stefania follow that core value to this day. They work to ensure that all customers have a great buying experience at Ferrara Lumber.

History

In 1959, a local building contractor named Matthew N. Ferrara knew from his own experience that there was no local source for lumber and other building materials in his Seneca Falls community. The building business was robust and Matthew recognized that the trend - which the world has come to know as the Baby Boom - had not passed Seneca County by. He had an opportunity to bring a service to the community and establish a business for him and his family. Thus, Ferrara Lumber was born.

Matthew worked side by side with his two sons, Samuel J. Ferrara and Matthew A. Ferrara (Zoomer) to establish their reputation for quality products, knowledgeable staff and honest business practices. In 1980, Matthew N. sold his business to his sons and the business continued to prosper based on the same premise of quality products and superior service.

In 1982, a 4,000 sq. ft. expansion of the main business location was constructed to permit a full line of hardware, kitchen, and bath products to be properly showcased. It permitted customers and contractors to see in place actual products they were considering for use in their construction projects. 1982 also marked the time Ferrara Lumber joined Do it Best Corp., a member-owned buying co-op that permitted cost-effective product purchasing.

In 2008, the business was passed down once again. Now, the third generation of Ferrara's (Sarah, Matthew, and Stefania) are on the job and ready for business. The core values of Ferrara Building Supplies, Inc. remain the same: blending a good business sense with a commitment to both the community and the family. Matthew N. Ferrara founded the company on these principles, Sam and Zoomer grew it with the same guiding principles, and now the next generation of Ferrara's plan for this company to continue to be a vital component of the construction industry in Central New York.
