Using Charcoal and Gas Grills for Your Holiday Cooking

Outdoor temperatures are falling, delicious smells of roasting and toasting food is filling the air, and the neighborhood is in full holiday mode. It’s one of our favorite seasons. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and the joy of the season has everyone thinking about their cooking plans. Both Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of the most long-awaited holidays and we want to give you a head start on your holiday cooking.

Our most popular grills, ranging between brands like Weber and Big Green Egg, are here to give your holiday cooking that extra bit of flair. At Pleasants, we’re ready to find you the perfect grill for whatever cooking you’re getting into for the holidays.

In this blog, we go over the best options for cooking your turkey outside this season.

Outdoor Grilling and Holiday Meals for the Season

As the number one food item during this time of the year, turkey can be prepared in a number of ways. Whether you choose to smoke, roast or gill your turkey, the grills from Weber and Big Green Egg can add in that extra punch of flavor that every holiday turkey deserves.

While it may be intimidating, cooking your turkey on the grill (and whatever other holiday meats you may be inclined to grill up) is a very easy alternative to indoor cooking!

You can have your entire Thanksgiving meal ready to go in only a few short hours. Turn your holiday cooking into a holiday grill party!

Whether gas or charcoal, these grills give you a plethora of options for preparing your Thanksgiving turkey to a deliciously delightful degree.

How to Prep Your Turkey:

  1. Pick out a great turkey

  2. Make sure the turkey fits on your grill

  3. Add seasoning and flavor

Pleasants Tip: Our favorite turkey preps are John Henry's seasoning and Creole Butter marinade. When spread or injected during the prep phase, both add flavor and spice to your turkey.

Whether you want to try some new flavors or want to add a little kick to your meal, you can’t go wrong with these choices!

Preparing Weber’s Gas Grill

As one of the leaders in gas grills, Weber builds off of decades of experience in outdoor cooking.

Here are our top steps to preparing your weber grill:

  1. Prep your grill for indirect heat: This means that the turkey will not be directly over a lit burner.

  2. Preheat your grill for 10-15 minutes before adding your turkey.

  3. Get out your dual-probe thermometer. A dual-probe thermometer is a great thing to have because it has one probe to measures your meat's temperature and one to measure your grill cavity. Here's Weber's temperature guide

Using Your Big Green Egg Charcoal Grill For Your Turkey

The charcoal grill by Big Green Egg is yet another delicious and efficient way to cook your turkey this Thanksgiving.

Both fuel-efficient and easy-to-use, these charcoal grills light quickly, heating the grill to turkey-cooking temperatures in no time. Flavorful and natural, the charcoal provided by Big Green Egg is natural lump charcoal, leaving your turkey with a great taste. Low and slow cooking for a delicious smokey flavor.
