Ewings Takes Top Spot

Caribou, Maine – In a thrilling twist in the history of the S.W. Collins 5K road race, Teanne Ewings of Houlton outpaced 54 other runners and made history by becoming the first woman to secure the overall win in the twenty-nine years of this road race. Ewings clocked in at 17:42.7, a significant improvement of over two minutes and thirty seconds from her last year's race time.

A veteran competitor, Ewings has been a consistent winner in her age category at the Collins' Fun Run races since her childhood. This victory follows her recent participation in the New England Track and Field Championships in Bangor, where she set personal records in the 800-meter race and smashed the State Class C record for the 1600-meter race with a time under 5 minutes, finishing third overall. These incredible feats have resulted in her earning the All-New England status.

In the words of Sam Collins, President of S.W. Collins Co., “Teanne's performance was nothing short of spectacular. Not only did she take the overall win in both the men's and women's divisions, but she also set a course record for women on this course. We are delighted to sponsor this race, and this year, we are directing all proceeds towards buying ski uniforms for the middle school Nordic ski team.” A total of $1,320 will be donated for the race suits.

The overall men's title went to Michael Downing of Mount Chase, who finished with a time of 17:53.4. In the walking category, Keith Draper was the male winner with a time of 27:24.7, while Heather Curran was the top female finisher, clocking in at 42:34.5.

S.W. Collins Co., now in its sixth generation, is a well-established Maine lumber and building supply dealer with retail locations in Lincoln, Houlton, Presque Isle, Caribou, and Fort Kent.
