History of Monnick Supply

The history of Monnick supply Co. begins in 1948 in Framingham Massachusetts. Two Brothers, Nicholas and James Montalbano, along with three cousins, Theodore, Gregory Sr., and John Montalbano were looking to supplement their income and decided to open a small paint supply store. They shared in the duties of working in the store while holding down full time jobs. They got the stores name by using the first three letters of their last name Mon and combining it with Nick the primary founder of the company.

Monnick Supply Co. Was Born

1955

In 1955 Gregory Jr. after graduating from Northeastern University, took over the management of Monnick Supply Co. Gregory Jr. started adding new departments like housewares and started the transition into a full service Hardware store.

1968

They had started to sell more and more new products as the "do it yourself" movement began after Greg's brother Andy got out of the army in 1968 he also joined Monnick Supply and helped grow the business.

1970

Gregory Sr. continued to do the book keeping and then transitioned Greg's wife Mary into that role. Gregory purchased the business from Nicholas in 1970.

Monnick Expands

In the 1980's all of Greg and Mary's four children, Debbie, Michael, Paul, and Gary worked in the store. Realizing that they needed to expand in order to provide for their growing family they opened a new store in 1993. The 2nd location was on Rte 85 in Marlborough. The Marlborough store quickly outgrew the location they were in and in 1998 moved into Post Road Plaza on Rte 20. At that time we also started Marlborough Grand Rental Station and Monnick Industrial Supply Co. to complement our successful hardware stores.

In October 2013, we moved the Marlborough store to its current location at 135 Maple St, back on Rt 85 just south of downtown Marlborough.

Where We've Come

At this time Monnick Supply Co Inc. consists of two retail hardware stores, one Full service rental center, and one industrial/commercial supply co, with over 50 employees. The third generation took over the Business in 2010 and have plans to add a rental center into our Framingham location.
