A steady slow drip from the spout of a stem faucet indicates the need for a new washer, seat or both. A damaged seat will quickly wear our a new washer so replace the washer first and while the faucet is disassembled, inspect the seat for signed of wear- scratches, pits or uneven surface. Use a flashlight to illuminate the inside of the faucet or run the tip of your finger around the edge of the seat. If you find signs of wear or if they new washer fails to stop the drip, replace the seat.
