Members of the Valu Home Centers Team volunteered their time to help replace the front entryway stairs, install a new gutter downspout, refinish concrete, and replace garage siding for Elmira residents Wendy and Rey DeJesus. Rey served in the Army for many years, both in active duty and as a reservist, and Valu Crew was thrilled to have an opportunity to serve him in return.

This initiative puts the do-it-yourself knowledge of the Valu Home Centers Team in action through service to our community. Volunteers for this event included team members from our locations in Owego, Corning, and Elmira as well as the Elmira area District Manager.

Mickenzie was stationed in North Carolina from 2011 to 2014 as an airborne artillery serviceman and is still in the reserves today. We are incredibly proud to have him on the Valu Home Centers team, and very grateful for his service to our country.
Over the course of 24 years, together with their generous customers, Valu Home Centers has raised and donated more than $3,500,000 in support of Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build safe, decent housing for all. In addition to fundraising, we encourage our customers to become Habitat for Humanity volunteers. What better way to convince others to ‘give a hand up’ than to lead by example?
Habitat for Humanity is always seeking volunteers. No matter your skill level, or how much time you are able to commit, there is a project waiting for you! Did you know that Habitat homeowners complete hundreds of hours of sweat equity working to build their new house? That means you’ll sometimes be working right beside the family who will be living in the home once it’s completed. Visit the Habitat for Humanity International website, and search for your zip code to sign up today.
