On October 5th Valu Crew, Valu Home Centers’ community service initiative, volunteered with Chemung County Habitat for Humanity in Elmira, NY to help rehab a home for a local US Army veteran.

Members of the Valu Home Centers Team volunteered their time to help replace the front entryway stairs, install a new gutter downspout, refinish concrete, and replace garage siding for Elmira residents Wendy and Rey DeJesus. Rey served in the Army for many years, both in active duty and as a reservist, and Valu Crew was thrilled to have an opportunity to serve him in return.

Valu Crew volunteers take an active role in bettering the communities that we serve, and amaze our customers with their hard work and dedication.

This initiative puts the do-it-yourself knowledge of the Valu Home Centers Team in action through service to our community. Volunteers for this event included team members from our locations in Owego, Corning, and Elmira as well as the Elmira area District Manager.

This project was particularly special for Mickenzie Nowicki, Floor Manager at our Elmira location, because he is a fellow Army veteran.

Mickenzie was stationed in North Carolina from 2011 to 2014 as an airborne artillery serviceman and is still in the reserves today. We are incredibly proud to have him on the Valu Home Centers team, and very grateful for his service to our country.

Valu Home Centers has been a proud partner of Habitat for Humanity since 1993.

Over the course of 24 years, together with their generous customers, Valu Home Centers has raised and donated more than $3,500,000 in support of Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build safe, decent housing for all. In addition to fundraising, we encourage our customers to become Habitat for Humanity volunteers. What better way to convince others to ‘give a hand up’ than to lead by example?
