Our Story

Welcome to Wholesale Lumber Company!

Wholesale Lumber got its start in 1974, when El Paso Electric employees went on strike. My father Tom Burks started driving around from job site to job site selling 2x4’s out of the back of his pickup. The strike ended, but my father opted to follow his dream of being self-employed and not return to work as a lineman. I can’t imagine how scary it must have been to leave a good job with a wife, four kids and a house payment to make. We were soon in a rented yard on Alameda near Pasodale. From there we moved to Socorro, added the Clint store in 1984 and the Fabens store in 1989.
