Nick Merkle Named to 2025 Wood Industry 40 Under 40
Bliffert Lumber is proud to celebrate Nick Merkle, Assistant Operations Manager, for being named to the 2025 Wood Industry 40 Under 40, an annual recognition presented by Woodworking Network that honors rising leaders driving innovation and excellence across North America’s wood products sector.
At just 26, Nick has already established himself as a key force behind Bliffert’s operational success. From leading safety initiatives to optimizing multi-location procedures, his contributions are shaping not only how we work today, but how we’ll continue to evolve in the future.
Nick’s journey began in the yard at our Germantown location, where he gained hands-on experience with our products and day-to-day operations. He’s since worked across Sales, Service, and now Operations, giving him a well-rounded understanding of the business and the critical role each department plays in our success.
Among Nick’s most impactful accomplishments is his work in workplace safety. He’s led the development of robust programs that protect employees in all conditions, including inclement weather. His efforts to improve load security, equipment inspections, and driver testing have strengthened our culture of accountability and compliance. Notably, Nick championed the implementation of Samsara DVIR and GPS systems, improving vehicle inspections and elevating fleet safety across the board.
Beyond safety, Nick has introduced clear, effective policies that have refined daily operations across the board. He’s played a key role in optimizing dispatch systems and implementing standardized procedures for handling freeze-sensitive products. His structured approach to capital expense planning has helped improve decision-making and resource allocation across multiple locations.
Reflecting on the recognition, Nick shared:
“It means a lot both personally and professionally, as I like to think that I’m still starting and building my career. I have a long way to go, but something like this helps reassure me that the process is working and the hard work is paying off.”
Nick is driven by a desire to create a safer, more efficient workplace, taking pride in solving challenges and developing policies that contribute to long-term growth and stability for both his career and family.
Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with his family and getting out on the golf course when time allows.
