EggFEST Memories 2024

While we are busy planning the 2025 Big Green EggFEST Food Festival, August 1-2, we wanted to share some top memories from the 2024 EggFEST Food Festival.

2024 saw a record amount raised for two local food charities – A Recipe to End Hunger and Kentucky Harvest. $40,122.00 was split among the two charities.

The "Chopped" Competition

The 2023 “Chopped” Competition featured three professional chefs – Serge Katz from Flavaville, David Danielson from ata Restaurant and Katherine Aphaivongs-Harrod from All Thai’d Up – competed for the trophy. They were given a bucket of unknown ingredients and 90 minutes to prepare an appetizer, entrée and dessert – all cooked on Bg Green Eggs.

The People's Choice Competition

Six teams of amateur chefs competed for the title of “People’s Choice.” Each team prepared a variety of dishes, and attendees voted for their favorite team’s dishes.

Saturday Competitions

More than 1,000 people enjoyed food samples from amateur chefs on Saturday's EggFEST Food Festival. Cooks begin preparations on site as early as midnight just because they enjoy feeding people. Two unique competitions take place on Saturday

"Best Beef" Dish

Some 70 amateur cooks vied for the title of “Best Beef” dish. A team of judges tasted each beef dish and voted for the top three.

"Best Pork" Dish

Dozens of amateur cooks vied for the title of “Best Pork” dish. A team of judges tasted each pork dish and voted for the top three.

The Lehrer Award

2024 marked the third year of "The Lehrer Award," presented for extraordinary service to the EggFEST Food Festival over the years.

Each year, a person or group of people who contribute greatly to the success of the Big Green EggFEST Food Festival is recognized for their contributions with the presentation of the Lehrer Service Award, named after Jim and Marilyn Lehrer, the founders of EggFEST.
