Student Sales Associate

Brownsboro Hardware & Paint is continually looking for part-time student sales associates to join our team.

The ideal candidate should be at least 15 years old and able to work a minimum of 12-15 hours a week, 12 months a year. This includes after school and at least one weekend day.

Workers will be trained to help customers’ hardware store needs. This includes waiting on customers, running the cash registers, assembling and delivering grills, cleaning, and performing various tasks. Those over 18 may be trained on making keys, mixing paint, cutting glass, etc.

This is NOT just a summer job. Training takes several months. It’s our hope that the right candidates will stay with us for a year or more. We have had several students stay with us through high school and college.

 Requirements:

Be an important part of the team by providing excellent professional service to all customers. Efficiently assist customers in identifying needs and finding products to meet those needs. Correctly and efficiently run the Point-of-Sale system. Must be friendly, detail oriented, able to work under pressure and be a team player.  Must be available for an agreed-upon number of hours per week, including after school and weekends.

Tasks & Responsibilities Expected to Master:

• Professionally greet customers as they enter the store; assist with purchases and carry merchandise to customers’ vehicles as requested
• Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on customer needs
• Identify prices of products and services using the Point-of-Sale system
• Effectively run the Point-of-Sale system for purchasing, returns and exchanges
• Stock and re-stock shelves
• Assemble, deliver and sell grills (with training)
• Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions and specials
• Identify selling opportunities with customers, including special orders
• Help maintain store cleanliness and presentation. This includes: emptying garbage cans, sweeping/mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning and “fronting” shelves, general outside cleaning
• At 18 and with proper training, fill propane tanks, cut keys, mix paint.
