Senator Leo Jaramillo along with Julianna Barbee SBDC Director at Northern New Mexico College and NNMC College President Rick Bailey recognized and announced Espanola’s SBDC Outstanding STAR Business Hacienda Home Center Inc. Joseph Sanchez General Manager and Vice President and owners, Brothers Felix, Robert & Leroy Sanchez and Russ Kauzlaric.
Established in 1975, Hacienda Home Centers has been serving the Beautiful Espanola Valley for decades. As a Family and Locally Owned business Hacienda Home Center strives to satisfy their customers needs and exceed their expectations.
Hacienda Home Center is a full service home center specializing in building materials, and general hardware needs, and much more. Hacienda Home Center has locations in Espanola with 26 employees; Las Vegas with 28 employees and just recently during the pandemic opened a new store in Albuquerque- the new Hacienda Home Center Supply with 13 new employees and growing. What sets the new store apart is that it is primarily focused Maintenance, Repair and Operation products for professionals, tradesmen and do it yourselfers who are looking for a one stop shop for materials and supplies.
COVID-19 has created a challenging environment to do business but Hacienda Home Centers focused on delivering service and moved forward with their expansion. There was an increase in demand and COVID-19 also disrupted supply chains and Hacienda has had to adapt many of its marketing and selling practices to maintain market share and keep their employees and their families safe.
In 1975-Owners -Brothers Felix , Robert and Leroy Sanchez all with backgrounds and a passion for the hardware and building material industry left their comfortable jobs and chose to set off on expanding on this new endeavor. In addition to the three brothers other friends and colleagues’ in the industry decided to give this new company a chance and brought their experience and dedication to the effort. Living in trailers close to the new store they put in long hours and sacrificed comfort to follow their dream.
Through all the years of changes in the industry and increasing competition from out of state corporations Hacienda has remained strong always sticking to its core principles pay as you go and treat others the way you expect to be treated. With the expansion of Big Box retailers moving in to a number of Haciendas markets it was decided to focus on stores which were less pressured and could focus on delivering on our customers’ expectations.
In 1998 Hacienda joined Do it Best corporation. Do it Best is the leading member owned hardware and Building materials buying cooperative in the world. This partnership has given Hacienda the ability to compete in and ever-changing and competitive marketplace. With over 3,700 members Do it Best gives Hacienda the buying power to compete with national chain stores. Hacienda continues to pursue new opportunities to grow and give their employees ways to grow with them.
“The best advice he can give to other businesses right now is to plan wisely, capitalize on your strengths, and educate yourself on people, programs and organizations, which can provide assistance and guidance like The SBDC, and Julianna Barbee in particular was critical in providing details and information related to grants and loans and how to obtain them.”
I would like to acknowledge Chris Fresquez, Los Alamos National Laboratory Supplier Management & Small Business Program Manager for also assisting Hacienda Home Center, says Julianna Barbee, SBDC Director. “Chris has been instrumental in the success of Hacienda Home Center.”
