Keeping it in the family

Keeping It In The Family

Honor Hardware and Building Supply has been a staple in Honor, Michigan since 1963. Earl Soderquist along with his wife Shirley had a vision and they built and started Honor Hardware. They would later add lumber and building materials to their inventory as their vision grew it became Honor Hardware and Building Supply, Inc. Their store was the very first store built in what is now the Honor Plaza. It has been a family affair with their daughter, Lynn Hopkins and late son-in-law, Tom Hopkins joining the business in the 1970's. In 1987 and 1988 respectively, their daughter, Mary Rodriguez and husband, Doug Rodriguez joined the business also.

In 1978 Earl and Shirley built and started Frankfort Building Supply and in 1998 Tom and Lynn purchased a location in Onekama that is now Onekama Building Supply. In 1999 Lynn and Tom purchased the business from Earl and Shirley. In 2009 Lynn became President of the corporation after Tom's passing and Doug became General Manager. Unfortunately, during the 2008 recession the lumber and home center industry was hit hard. The followings years were made more difficult with the passing of Tom and then Earl and Shirley both in 2012.

In 2014, for the survival of the business, the painful decision was made to close the Frankfort location. Since then Lynn, Doug, Mary and all of their dedicated staff have worked hard to thrive in this industry. On October 14, 2021 another transition was made as Doug and Mary finalized their purchase of the business from Lynn. Lynn will be greatly missed but we are so excited for her to be able to retire. We wish continued good health, happiness, and all the golf and skiing her heart desires! Doug and I look forward to having a continued working relationship with our customers and community. We feel so blessed and fortunate for our awesome staff and are very excited to be able to keep the business in the family and in our community!
