In 1938 our company started by offering quality coal and great service. Today the coal is gone but the tradition of quality is stronger than ever. Our 22,000 square foot facility is so much more than a hardware store or lumber yard. We now offer a full Interior Design experience with professional consultations and all of the products to back up the service. We offer Flooring, Cabinets, Countertops, Blinds, Custom Draperies, Upholstery, Paint and anything else that will make your house a “home”, and we offer it all in the same friendly and approachable manner that has made us a success for over 70 years. We might even say, that from a lump of coal, we have developed into quite a diamond. Stop in and see for yourself!

With $50 to their name and a used dump truck Gladieux Coal Company was founded by Cousins Herb and Leo Gladieux at 5541 Navarre Ave in 1938. The business was a success and by 1950 they had to relocate to a larger facility. The new location was 5501 Navarre Ave. Here the Gladieux Family expanded the coal company by providing alternative heating equipment which included Coleman oil furnaces.

Herb’s son Ronald joined the business in 1957 and expanded the business again this time to include hardware and lumber. Daniel Gladieux, Leo’s eldest son, entered the family business in 1964. Continued success and growth, along with the expansion of Navarre Avenue from a two lane highway to a five lane highway, allowed the company to relocate again.

In 1994 Ron and Dan were ready to take on a new challenge-condominiums. Doing business as Condominiums by Gladieux, Gladieux Home Center began constructing luxurious condominiums that were spacious in size and affordable to own. The first subdivision was Park Place which has 20-2 family condominiums. The demand was overwhelming and Ron and Dan decided to keep developing. Since Park Place we have constructed condominiums at Eagle’s Landing Golf Course Community and developed another subdivision WynnPark Villas. In 2005 the company started the development of another villa subdivision called Villas of CrossCreek Meadows.

On September 7, 1999 Gladieux Lumber opened its “Do-It Best” Home Center at 5120 Navarre Ave. in Oregon. The new complex includes a 22,000 square feet retail center and 45,000 square feet of lumber storage facilities with customer drive thru lanes. The new store features an even greater selection of hardware, plumbing, electrical, paint, and other home improvement supplies Northwest Ohioans count on not to mention topsoil, mulch, sand, stone, and propane. This new facility also includes a model train department with a 10’ by 16’ running train display featuring model trains from Lionel, MTH, K Line, and Atlas.

2009 we seized the opportunity to expand into the Interior Design and Home Remodeling. We now began offering a full Interior Design experience with professional consultations and all of the products to back up the service. We offer Flooring, Cabinets, Countertops, Blinds, Custom Draperies, Upholstery, Paint and anything else that will make your house a “home”.

Fast Forward to 2012 where Gladieux Home Center once again answered the demand of their customers with the launch of their expanded pet department Planet Pet. Planet Pet specializes in premium and super premium dog and cat foods. We also have a great selection of Wild Bird Seed, Bird Feeders, and suet. At Planet Pet you will find some of the finest brands of pet food like Fromm, Best Breed, Nutro, Blue Buffalo, Canidae, Diamond Naturals, Taste of the Wild, Iams, Victor and Purina Pro Plan dog food.
