Taylor’s Do it Center (Taylor’s) is a family-owned and locally-operated independent hardware store, serving the Tidewater area since 1927. The company is a member of Do it Best Corp., the only US-based, member-owned comprehensive and fully integrated hardware, lumber and building materials buying cooperative in the home improvement industry.

Taylor’s Do it Center, formally known as Fuel, Feed and Building Supplies was established in 1927. Decades later, the original coal yard and small warehouse became one of the Tidewater region’s biggest home-grown success stories.

The first company expansion was led by the sons of the founders in 1965, one of whom was Dawson Taylor. As one of the area's oldest retail businesses, the company now operates 11 convenient locations in Chesapeake, Gloucester Point, Norfolk, Poquoson, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, and Moyock, North Carolina with products tailored to each locality.

Taylor's offers a wide variety of services including key cutting, chain and rope cutting, screen and window repair, glass cutting, propane filling, paint tint and mixing, gas log installation, grill delivery and more. Today, all three of Dawson’s sons have followed in their father’s footsteps. Joe Taylor is the current President & CEO, while Russ Taylor serves as Vice President/Operations Manager. Oldest son Bob Taylor left the helm of Taylor’s in 2001 when he was asked to head Do it Best Corp., Taylor’s buying cooperative. After 15 years as CEO for Do it Best Corp., Bob has returned home to Virginia Beach and continues to serve on the board for Taylor’s along with his father and his two brothers. Five members of the fourth generation of the Taylor family are now actively engaged in the family business.
